A love token was usually created in the victorian times. It is a coin that has been smoothed flat on one or both sides after the minting process and has been hand-engraved with names, dates, pictorial scenes, symbols, initials or sentimental message between the giver and receiver. For years, love token coins have been carried for luck or was added to a bracelet and worn as jewellery, but on the rare occasion were accidentally spent. For many years after the victorian period you can find them engraved on later coins, but they are usually on victorian coins.
